Who is the Roek? – a team-building concept with a saboteur in the group
Who is the Roek? is a unique team-building concept from Wakaaro in which a group of colleagues navigates a series of physical and mental challenges, whilst a saboteur lurks somewhere within the group. The concept combines adventure activities with an ongoing narrative, and can be tailored to suit any team or sector.
The challenge
A traditional team-building event with a few games and a dinner rarely has a lasting impact. Property firm Habitat was looking for something different: a team-building experience that went beyond a fun day out together, and which truly brought staff closer together, built mutual trust and allowed them to experience the importance of collaboration rather than just being told about it.
The solution
Wakaaro developed the ‘Who is the Roek?’ concept into a two-day event for Habitat. The participants worked through a series of challenges together (ranging from a high ropes course and archery to puzzles and teamwork tests), whilst one of them was secretly the saboteur. Throughout the day, intrigue, mistrust and team spirit built up to a thrilling climax. Wakaaro also provided the full package: accommodation, catering and, as the absolute highlight, a helicopter flight as a surprise element.
Result & impact
The two-day event created a narrative with which the entire team could identify, and the game elements and carefully chosen tasks led to a genuine learning experience for all participants. ‘Who is the Roek?’ proved to be a valuable way to get to know colleagues better, build mutual trust and help participants feel the importance of collaboration rather than just hearing about it.
